When you feel constantly tired, as if there’s no energy left in your body to perform any daily activity, then what you’re feeling is called fatigue. It may seem like feeling drowsy but experiencing fatigue and feeling sleepy are not the same thing.
There may be many reasons causing fatigue –
• Lifestyle factors – Lack of sleep, lack of physical activity, obesity, excessive caffeine, excessive consumption of alcohol and nutritional deficiencies
• Mental health issues – depression, anxiety, a seasonal affective disorder etc.
• Physical health issues – thyroid issues, diabetes, arthritis, liver disease, kidney disease, chronic fatigue syndrome etc.
Along with fatigue, people might experience other symptoms such as irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, severe headaches, chest pain and rectal bleeding, which could be an indication of serious medical conditions.
Since fatigue can be a symptom of many conditions, it is important to get tested to identify the root cause of it. Early diagnosis can help with the necessary treatment plan.
